Hans Jacob Hess with his wife were first imprisoned in 1637. During the imprisonment, his wife was bade bitter, for her husband was stripped and both were put in irons bonds for sixteen weeks. He, never the less patiently bore with a steadfast mind until his deliverance.
His wife was first imprisoned in the Council House and then in Athen back, where through bad treatment and unfit food and drink for 63 weeks, she was seized with consumption and after suffering much misery, died in prison.
The property of Hans Jacob Hess was seized by the authroities who realized from the sale, 4,000 guilders. Nother was restored to the family, a great injustice. How will they be able to account for this before Righteous Judgement seat of Jesus Christ.

--------------------------
In 1637 Jacob Hess, an Anabaptist Zurick Canton minister, an aged man of 53 years, was arrested and imprisioned more than 91 weeks for his faith. That was the first time the Governor sent officers to catch a person. In 1639 Anna, his wife, was imprisioned 63 weeks where she died of brutal treatment. Jacob and Anna Hess's confiscated property brought 4,000 guilders at the Jager Council (Anabaptist Head Hunters.) No guilders were restored to any Hess family who remained. Perhaps Hans Hess (second generation) was the only child of this family who survived the Switzerland persecutions.
